Pinterest is filling its original programming division with former YouTube executives

Pinterest is adding more experience to its original programming division. Laurel Stier, whose career has included stints at YouTube and Viacom, has joined Pinterest as its Global Head of Originals.

Stier joined Pinterest in March. In her new gig, she’ll work alongside several executives who also came to the crafty platform after working at YouTube. Nadine Zylstra, who spent seven years at YouTube and briefly served as its original programming chief, became Pinterest’s Global Head of Programming and Original Content last year. With that move, she linked up with Malik Ducard, who ended a decade-long stint at YouTube to develop Pinterest’s creator strategy.

By joining the ex-YouTube contingent at Pinterest, Stier will bring 15 years of professional experience to a company that is prioritizing original content. Stier spent a decade at Viacom, where she developed shows for channels like MTV and VH1. After departing that role, Stier linked up with former MTV colleague

Susanne Daniels by joining YouTube’s original content division. The programs she worked on included kid-friendly fare like The Big Tiny Food Face-Off and shows that tackled big issues like climate change and race relations.

After Daniels’ departure from YouTube, Stier ascended to a new role as Global Head of Original Content. She held that position for a year before moving to Pinterest.

In a recent press release, Pinterest announced the Stier hire amidst a number of associated news items. Stier is joining Zylstra’s team, which has inked deals with producers like Dotdash Meredith and launched partnerships with The Louvre and First Lady Dr. Jill Biden, among others.

In addition to original programming, Pinterest is also cultivating a global creator community. It recently expanded its creator fund and issued a call for content related to sustainability and the environment.
