In October, Snapchat announced a slew of new features for its premium tier. Now, those updates have hit Snapchat+ just in time for the holidays.
One of the fresh perks on Snapchat+ is particularly relevant for your holiday shopping. It is now possible to gift a subscription to someone else, so feel free to spread the joy to your #1 BFF. Note that Snapchat+ recipients will only save $3.99, since the service is reasonably priced, but don’t let that stop you from purchasing a Snap subscription as a virtual stocking stuffer.
On the platform side of things, the launch of gifted Snapchat+ subscriptions brings Snap’s premium offering in line with its competitors. YouTube Gaming’s analogous tier — Memberships — gained gift status back in May.
Other new Snapchat+ features include the ability to extend the visibility of Stories, which typically disappear after 24 hours. Now, premium subscribers can post disappearing content for as short as one hour
or as long as one week. And in a nod to WhatsApp, Snapchat+ users can now set a customized Chat Wallpaper to let all their contacts know how cool their account is.While other platforms struggle to figure out the best ways to position their premium tiers, Snap seems to have figured out the identity of Snapchat+. The subscription is an easy choice for anyone in search of cosmetic options, and if you want to recognize your social media besties, $3.99 is a small price to pay. More than one million people have already purchased Snapchat+ subscriptions. As a result, the service has generated more than $5 million in revenue for its parent company.
