In honor of Pride Month, Netflix is hosting a star-studded event that it says will serve as a moment for reflection and celebration for the LGBTQ+ community — on YouTube.
The digitally-programmed event, aptly dubbed Netflix Pride, will feature LGBTQ+ stars and creatives that appear in the streaming giant’s own programming and beyond. Kicking off at 7 pm ET on June 30, the broadcast will also tout a charitable component, raising funds for: The Marsha P. Johnson Institute, which works to protect and defend the human rights of Black transgender people; OutRight Action International, which fights for LGBTQ+ human rights; and the Trans Justice Funding Project, which supports justice groups run by and for trans people.
The Netflix Pride lineup includes: Laverne Cox, Janet Mock, Queer Eye‘s fab five, Titus Burgess, Dolly Parton, Goldie Hawn, Normani, and drag superstar Trixie Mattel
. During the stream, celebs will reflect on the meaning of Pride in conjunction with the Black Lives Matter movement, Netflix says, and also touch on the ways that LGBTQ+ nonprofits and creatives are losing income amid the coronavirus pandemic. Chaka Khan (pictured above) will close out the event with a live performance.Netflix Pride will predominantly live on Netflix’s YouTube channel — a similar distribution strategy that the streaming giant took with its recent Dave Chappelle special. That said, highlights from the event will also be distributed on TikTok and Instagram. On these platforms, segments will live on The Most — a Netflix social handle for its LGBTQ+ community.
