Quibi Poaches CBS Executive Becky Brooks To Lead Lifestyle Programming Under Janice Min

Jeffrey Katzenberg’s shortform video startup Quibi has a new executive joining its already-powerhouse team. The digital studio has poached CBS’s Becky Brooks to lead lifestyle programming for its Daily Essentials sector.

Brooks, who was CBS’s senior vice president of multiplatform programming and branded content, will work in tandem with Ryan Kadro, another recently-onboarded former CBS exec, Variety reports. For Quibi, Brooks will manage content covering entertainment, fashion, beauty, health and wellness, and trending topics, while Kadro will oversee news.

Both Brooks and Kadro will report to seasoned editor Janice Min, who joined Quibi in September and is spearheading the entire Daily Essentials team.

Brooks joined CBS in 2014. She helped guide and develop a number of the network’s flagship programs, including Entertainment Tonight, Inside Edition, Judge Judy, Dr. Phil, and Rachael Ray

. She primarily helped extend those brands across platforms, most recently launching the digital brand ET Live, an extension of Entertainment Tonight.

Before CBS, Brooks worked as a producer for ABC affiliate KEYT in Santa Barbara, then moved to CBS’s KCAL/KCBS, where she worked as a news writer and line producer. In addition, she spent time as a supervising producer for NCBUniversal’s Access Hollywood.

Variety also notes that Quibi now expects to charge viewers between $5 and $8 per month. The variance in price is likely due to the fact that Quibi is looking at a Hulu-esque tier system — so subscribers can pay a lower price if they’re willing to put up with ads, and pay a higher price to go ad-free.

Quibi is set to launch in 2020. Katzenberg has said that after launch, the startup plans to debut two new shows per month.
