TikTok Launches In-App Fundraising Product, Plots Star-Studded Charity Stream

TikTok has yet to employ a monetization partner program that enables creators to earn money through an ad split or viewer tips, but it has just unveiled its first-ever in-app fundraising feature for charity.

The tool, dubbed Donation Stickers, enables creators to raise funds within TikToks as well as live streams. When a user taps on the embedded sticker, a pop-up will appear where a donation can be tendered without leaving the app. Donation Stickers are being powered by charitable fundraising platform Tiltify, which says that TikTok marks its first mobile integration.

Launch partners include the CDC Foundation, James Beard Foundation, Meals on Wheels, MusiCares, National PTA, National Restaurant Association Educational Foundation, No Kid Hungry, and The Actors Fund.

And to fete

the launch, TikTok is matching any donations raised through May 27, with a goal of matching $10 million. On any TikTok that garners a donation, the platform will also add a #DoubleYourImpact hashtag. The $10 million is in addition to the $2 million that TikTok already committed to both No Kid Hungry and Meals on Wheels. (TikTok pledged $250 million in relief efforts earlier this month, as well as $125 million in ad credits for small businesses and NGOs).

And in yet another bid to supercharge the launch of Donation Stickers, TikTok is hosting a livestreaming event from May 5 to 9 dubbed Happy At Home: #OneCommunity, whereby celebrities and native creators will raise funds for organizations working to support communities that have been hardest hit by the coronavirus. While the lineup for the Happy At Home streams have yet to be announced, the weeklong event will take place nightly, from May 5 to May 9.

TikTok has gotten rather inventive with its community in quarantine, having last week hosted a virtual prom.
