The Tribeca Film Festival likes to keep up-to-date with digital media trends, and in order to fulfill that mission, it is bringing back a competition it first launched earlier in 2016. It has announced the second Tribeca Snapchat Shorts contest, which will feature two-minute movies created through the titular messaging app.
The rules are simple: Participating filmmakers must each use Snapchat to create a vertical video that runs for 120 seconds or less. Once complete, each film must downloaded and saved as an .mp4, at which point it can be submitted for review by Tribeca’s panel of judges. This year, the contest’s gatekeepers will include Andy Cohen, Eva Longoria, and (for some reason) Serena Williams. They will select a group of finalists, who will all be invited to the 2017 Tribeca Film Festival next April. At that event, the winner will be revealed.
Before it teamed up with its current super-short-form partner, Tribeca previously held a six-second film competition in partnership with Vine. As that app declined, the film festival got in bed with Snapchat for the 2016 edition of Tribeca Snapchat Shorts. The 10 winners of that contest can be found here.
Entries for the 2017 Tribeca Snapchat Shorts will be open between December 15th, 2016 and February 17th, 2017. Interested filmmakers can submit their Snaps here.
