YouTube execs, Veritasium host support educational creators through EduTuber Accelerator

Changer Studios and Electrify Video Partners are providing a boost for educational videomakers. Those two companies have teamed up with YouTube to launch the EduTuber Accelerator, a six-week program that will connect emerging creators with industry leaders.

The accelerator is open to North America-based educational creators who count between 5,000 and 150,000 subscribers on YouTube. In an email to Tubefilter, Electrify Co-Founder Ian Shepherd said that the program will use a broad definition of EduTuber. “A creator could be teaching math or science, showing people how to change a tire, how to grow vegetables in their backyard, how to do a kickflip, how to draw, how to start a business, or sharing the intricacies of Ancient Rome’s political personalities,” Shepherd said. “If you are educating others through YouTube videos then this program is for you.”

The 20 creators who are chosen for the EduTuber Accelerator will receive guidance from an assortment of industry experts. Derek Muller of Veritasium — who landed an investment from Electrify earlier this year — will be part of that coveted group. So too will YouTube’s Creator Liasion Rene Ritchie and its Strategic Partner Manager for Learning Dean Kowalski

. In a statement, Kowalski described the accelerator as “part of YouTube’s ongoing work to foster a vibrant creator ecosystem.”

Changer, which developed the accelerator’s curriculum, regularly partners with YouTube to launch events and gatherings. Its 2023 initiatives include a recent YouTube Shorts workshop in Melbourne and an upcoming pop-up space in Montreal. Changer’s previous accelerator participants have included some well-known educational YouTubers, including the creator known as the Internet Historian.

Electrify’s participation in the accelerator will come through its newly-announced Creator Foundation. That’s the name of a “purpose-driven arm” that align with the United Nations‘ Sustainable Development Goals. By harnessing its capital and human talent, Electrify plans to support emerging creators who have valuable stories to tell.

More details about the EduTuber Accelerator, including its application form can be found via its homepage. The program will begin in “late August 2023,” according to Electrify.
