Snapchat Launches ‘Safety Snapshot’ Program To Educate Users On Data Security

Snapchat has launched a new program within its Discover section dedicated to educating users about data security.

The digital literacy program, dubbed Safety Snapshot, will seek to help young users understand the risks associated with perusing the web, Axios reports. It arrives on Data Privacy Day — a decade-old international day of awareness.

The Discover channel will be curated with content from outside experts with new safety tips each month. The first episode bowed this morning, and covers different account protection measures, including email and phone number verifications. Axios

reports that future installments will hone in on other Snapchat privacy features. Additionally, the venture includes a filter created in tandem with the privacy advocacy group Future Of Privacy Forum, complete with a swipe-up for additional resources.

Axios notes that, in comparison to competing platforms, Snapchat prioritizes user privacy, with its seminal product being ephemeral Stories. The app has also opted out of comments and the ability to react to content publicly. In developing new products, Snapchat also consults privacy lawyers, according to the outlet, and has yet to suffer any major privacy or security breaches.

You can check out the first episode of Safety Snapshot, which features an animated tutorial in Snapchat’s classic Story format, right here.
