Facebook Launches ‘Black Gaming Creator Program’ With Monthly Pay, Other Perks

Facebook has today unveiled a new venture to support its Black gaming creator community.

The Black Gaming Creator Program (BGCP) is designed to help aspiring creators turn their passions into a full-time career, per an announcement video from Facebook-exclusive streamer King Richard. Creators who are ultimately selected for the application-only program will receive guaranteed monthly pay as well as other exclusive perks. According to The Verge, these include: Facebook Gaming partner status, early product access and feedback sessions, mentorship, and community support — including invitations to all Facebook-hosted digital and in-person events.

The Verge reports that Facebook has not disclosed how many creators will be admitted to the BGCP, but said that monthly pay will vary based on content quality and audience scale.

All told, Facebook says it’s investing $10 million into the initiative over the next two years, which is part of the company’s overarching $200 million commitment to support Black-owned businesses and organizations announced earlier this year. Interested creators can apply to the BGCP right here.

“This is part of our company-wide commitment to support Black and diverse communities in the U.S.,” tweeted Leo Olebe, Facebook Gaming’s global director of games partnerships. “Game streaming brings people together in a powerful way over a shared passion for games, and we hope this program will encourage more people to express their creativity through gaming.”
