Rhett & Link To Host First All-Day Charity Stream Benefiting ‘Inner-City Arts’

YouTube stalwarts Rhett McLaughlin and Link Neal are set to host their first-ever, all-day live stream next Thursday benefiting Inner-City Arts — a nonprofit that provides arts education to school-age, underprivileged children in Los Angeles, whose needs for enrichment have been heightened amid the ongoing coronavirus crisis.

The broadcast, from noon to 8 pm ET on Nov. 19, will air on the flagship Good Mythical Morning YouTube channel, which counts 17 million subscribers and nabs 75 million monthly views. McLaughlin and Neal say the stream marks their largest philanthropic undertaking to date in their decade-plus history on YouTube.

The stream will feature surprise guests and crew members from the duo’s parent company, Mythical, competing in fan-favorite games and challenges, including Wedgie Hangman, ice baths, and turning Neal into human-sized food. The duo, who moonlight as musicians, will also bring back their Song Biscuits series, in which they write and perform a song harnessing input from social media. Mythical worked on the broadcast with both YouTube itself as well as Canadian startup Stage TEN

, which develops tools for live programming — including interaction and monetization capabilities.

While this marks the Mythical duo’s largest charity stream, they have hosted streams in the past benefiting St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, Action Against Hunger, Black Lives Matter, No Kid Hungry, the Los Angeles LGBT Center, and — most recently — Vote.org.

“Our love of the arts is the foundation of our career and our friendship, and it all started way back when we were in middle school and teachers gave us the opportunity to work together on videos,” the duo said in a statement. “We had no idea that our creative passion would lead where to what it has today, or that we would have an opportunity to give back in a meaningful way.”
