Altruistic gaming star and Fortnite pro Benjamin ‘DrLupo’ Lupo has signed a multi-year deal with esports conglomerate ReKTGlobal — which owns Team Rogue, for which Lupo serves as captain of the Fortnite team.
As part of the deal, Lupo will receive equity in ReKTGlobal and become the first esports player to serve as the face of both ReKTGlobal and Rogue alongside fellow celebrities and investors Steve Aoki and Imagine Dragons. Lupo will make public appearances on the company’s behalf, and host sponsorship activations. He will also become intimately involved in all of Rogue’s business initiatives. This includes its Rogue Nation tiered fan subscription service, and Junior Rogue — a semesterly gaming accelerator program for young Fortnite players.
Lupo, who counts 7 million followers across all platforms, was most recently named to Time’s list of the 25 Most Influential People On The Internet, for his ceaseless work with St. Jude Children’s Hospital. In July, St. Jude named Lupo its first-ever Content Creator Of The Year to commemorate the record-breaking funds and awareness he’d raised for the organization.
“Rogue encompasses professionalism at its finest in the esports industry,” Lupo said in a statement. “The relationships that I’ve developed within Rogue feel like no other — the only word I can use to truly describe the feeling is ‘family’. They’re goal oriented without losing focus on what is most important in gaming: fun. I’m excited to continue to work with Rogue and ReKTGlobal on a ton of exciting upcoming adventures, and I cannot wait to get more people involved.”
In addition to Lupo, ReKTGlobal’s investors include Dutch DJ Nicky Romero, Latin music producer Tainy, music exec Lex Borrero, and Live Nation. ReKTGlobal raised $10.8 mllion in Series A funding in January amid Rogue’s global expansion.
Rogue’s teams compete in FIFA, Rainbow Six: Siege, Fortnite, Smash, Apex Legends, and Rocket League.
