Ari Fitz, Matt Steffanina Among Videomakers Headed To Tribeca Film Festival For Creators Market

On April 18th, the Tribeca Film Festival will commence the 2018 edition of its annual showcase, and for the sixth year in a row, the festival’s selection will include a number of nods to digital-native talent.

Independent projects will once again premiere at Tribeca’s New Online Work (N.O.W.) showcase, and YouTube notables like choreographer Matt Steffanina and vlogger Ari Fitz (pictured above) will be among the guests at the N.O.W. Creator Market, which will take place on April 25 at the festival’s hub in (you guessed it) the Tribeca neighborhood of New York City.

N.O.W., which in previous years has featured web projects like High Maintenance and The Gay And Wondrous Life of Caleb Gallo, will return in 2018 with more work from ambitious young creators. A dozen serial and short-form programs will premiere at a screening on April 19, and six days later, an invite-only event will give creators like Steffanina and Fitz a chance to chat about their work with brands, networks, and distributors.

“We started Tribeca N.O.W. five years ago to recognize a truly unique brand of storytellers emerging from the online space,” said Tribeca Film Festival Senior Programming Liza Domnitz in a press release. Dominitz described the showcase’s featured videomakers as “creators who found the Wild West landscape of the web the perfect playground for their hysterical, provocative and moving visions.”

Tribeca will also feature several nods to digital platforms among its Tribeca TV lineup, which will include several premieres from established platforms. YouTube Red will launch its Karate Kid sequel Cobra Kai as part of that lineup, as Comedy Central will bring Drunk History — the boozy series that began as a Funny or Die show — to the festival as well.
