Snapchat’s New Feature Stitches Together Concert Videos From Multiple Stories

This week brought a bunch of bad news for Snapchat, but while the messaging app continues to struggle on the stock market, it has at least rolled out a cool new feature. It has launched Crowd Surf, which stitches together multiple Stories in order to create a continuous video of a performance.

Crowd Surf gathers multiple Stories from major concert events, all of which show the on-stage action from their own angles. Once the footage has been collected, an AI syncs up Stories to the songs they are recording and lets users flip between multiple viewpoints. As viewers bounce around the venue, the music never skips a beat, and the seamlessness of Crowd Surf clips is impressive.

Snapchat put Crowd Surf on display at a recent Lorde concert in San Francisco, and several outlets tested out the feature there. The clip below comes from TechCrunch:

Crowd Surf is a neat little tool, and more importantly, it’s a feature Instagram Stories currently lacks. The Facebook-owned social service has been beating Snapchat at its own game since copying the Stories feature from it last year. As Snapchat looks to dig itself out of its current hole, any advantage is key. This one also happens to be pretty fun for concertgoers.
