4 Online Video Veterans Launch Little Monster Media Co., An Audience Building Agency (Exclusive)

A quartet of digital media veterans have today partnered to launch Little Monster Media Co., a self-described “audience building agency” that will provide strategic consultation, corporate training, and operational support for companies within the video space. Little Monster will help brands build engaged audiences on YouTube, Facebook, and emerging video platforms, it says, and has already partnered with the likes of Conde Nast, Fandango, and Whistle Sports, as well as creators including Yoga With Adriene and Hilah Cooking.

Little Monster’s founders include Matt Gielen and Jake Krengel, two former top executives at digital animation studio Channel Frederator. They’ve partnered on the new venture with ReelSEO founder Mark Robertson — who sold his video news website to Tubular Labs last year — and Josh Zimmerman, the former director of talent partnerships at Ovation Digital Arts.

“Audience development on digital platforms is a complex blend of art and science,” Gielen said in a statement. Adds Krengel: “Conventional wisdom is fleeting so in order to stay on top, brands and creators have to be comfortable with a certain amount of experimentation to find their winning strategy.”

Little Monster will help clients facilitate access to and foster “love” for their audiences, it says, while also honing a data-driven and tactical approach. Each of the aforementioned founders has been preaching such practices at various industry events for years, including VidCon, Playlist Live, and Social Media Week, as well as serving as thought leaders on audience development in the press — including Gielen’s numerous thoughtful and insightful contributions to Tubefilter.

“When executed in combination with data-driven, proven strategies, and best practices, digital video is by far the greatest medium available to communicate with and grow audiences online,” Robertson said. Added Zimmerman: “I am looking forward to helping clients tell their stories and build their audiences, tapping into the human spirit.”
