YouTube Millionaires: Laura Lee Likes To Keep Her Videos “Very Raw”

Welcome to YouTube Millionaires, where we profile channels that have recently crossed the one million subscriber mark. There are channels crossing this threshold every week, and each has a story to tell about YouTube success. Read previous installments of YouTube Millionaires here.

There are many women who have established themselves on YouTube by sharing their knowledge of makeup and other cosmetics, but few of those ladies are as easy to connect with as Laura Lee. Lee, who hails from Alabama, now lives in Los Angeles, and is partnered with StyleHaul, gives her videos some nice color by utilizing a conversational and unfiltered delivery. Through that tone, she tells her viewers that, in spite of her digital success, she’s still just a down-to-earth girl. Here are her words on her popular channel:

Laura Lee: Well it’s a little surreal that I tricked over a million people into thinking I’m cool, lol. I love my subscribers, they are so strong and supportive. YouTube has changed my life for the best and I wouldn’t change it for the world.

TF: What do you think are the elements of an ideal beauty vlog, and how do you strive toward that ideal?

LL: New and innovative ideas keep your subscribers engaged. I try to make each video better and more interesting than the last.

TF: What do you think is the most common error you see related to makeup?

LL: Not setting your makeup. Hours of hard and beautiful work can be ruined if you don’t follow this simple step.

TF: On the other hand, do you have a single favorite beauty hack?

LL: Using concealer as an eyeshadow primer.

TF: What’s the most interesting email you’ve ever received from a fan?

LL: Asking for pics of my feet! NOOO!!

TF: I noticed that while you use the fast-cut style of many other YouTubers, you also tend to leave in a lot of candid and funny moments. How do you decide what to cut and what to keep?

LL: I like to keep my videos very raw. I feel like that is what separates me from many other beauty vloggers. So many girls have amazing makeup, but that’s the problem. There are so many of us, so you have to find an edge. Any time I stumble over words, mispronounce something, or something goes wrong in the video, I leave in, because it lets the viewers see the true raw experience.

TF: On a similar note, how do you stay down to earth as your channel becomes more popular?

LL: I never forget where I came from. We all started at the same place with zero subscribers, so I never think I’m too good for anything or anyone because of my success.

TF: What steps must a brand meet before you will partner with it?

LL: There aren’t necessarily any steps, I just have to love the product in question and it has to make sense in my upcoming videos I have planned.

TF: What’s next for your channel? Any fun plans?

LL: I am starting to shift my channel to comedy. I just started a series on my channel called Brenda and Shirley. If you want a laugh be sure to check it out
