Web Video Community Is Well-Represented On Time’s List Of Influential Internet People

For the second year in a row, Time Magazine has compiled a list of the 30 most influential people on the Internet, and as you might expect, creators within the digital media community are well-represented on the list. Top personalities from YouTube, Vine, and Instagram cracked Time’s list alongside big-name public figures like Kanye West, Donald Trump, and Drake.

The only YouTube personality to return to Time’s list after appearing on it in 2015 was Felix “PewDiePie” Kjellberg, whose 42.8 million subscribers make his channel YouTube’s most popular destination. This time around, he’s joined on the list by several other prominent YouTube stars, including multicultural vlogger Lilly Singh and sex educator Laci Green. Both Kjellberg and Singh recently released series alongside YouTube Red, while Green has worked with MTV on a series called Braless.

Beyond YouTube, Time’s list

highlight notable creators who are making names for themselves across the social media world. For the second year in a row, controversial Instagram star Josh “The Fat Jew” Ostrovsky earned Time’s recognition. The other Instagram personality on the list, Essena O’Neill, earned fame for a very different reason. She rose to prominence in November 2015 after exposing the fraudulent nature of her social media presence.
