Zach King, a special effects ace whose six-second bursts of creativity have earned him more than a billion loops on Vine, has proven himself to be an effective brand partner. Among his many sponsored projects, he’s created videos for Sony, Red Bull, and Best Buy. For his latest partnership, King has teamed up with NBC for a 360-degree video that promotes the upcoming premiere of Heroes Reborn.
In the video, King and two other content creators–Sam Wickert of SoKrispyMedia and Aaron Benitez of VFX Bro–sit around in a living room eating pizza. This simple premise is spiced by through the introduction of superpowers, enabled through the magic of special effects. King replicates single objects, Wickert enlarges them, and Benitez realizes them out of printed pictures. Thanks to the video’s 360-degree presentation, viewers can pan around the room, taking in the superpowers from whichever angle they choose.
The video is kind of clunky on desktop browsers; viewers who wish to follow the action will have to quickly zip around the screen, lest they miss any of the special effects. It’s a bit smoother on mobile, where dragging the point-of-view to face the speaker is a much easier proposition. The bottom line is that Zach King is cool, 360-degree videos are even cooler, and NBC is bullish on both of them.
Heroes Reborn, which serves as a successor to the late-2000s superhero series Heroes, premieres its first season on NBC on September 24.
