Louis C.K. Releases ‘Live At The Comedy Store’ Online For $5

Louis C.K. certainly has an affinity for distributing his comedy specials digitally. The stand-up comedian and star of FX’s Louie series has released Live at the Comedy Store on his website for a $5 price tag.

According to C.K.’s website, Live at the Comedy Store is the comedian’s first hour-long stand-up special he’s releasing in 1080p HD. C.K. developed the piece over the last year, pulling from materials he performed in comedy clubs. “This special kind of goes back to when I used to just make noises and be funny for no particular reason,” writes C.K. on the special’s landing page. “It felt right to shoot this special in a club to give it that live immediate intimate feeling.”

C.K. is already highly familiar with finding success through online-only releases of his comedy specials. Back in 2011, the comedian distributed Louis C.K. Live at the Beacon Theater on his website for $5. He managed to sell 110,000 copies within four days, make several hundred thousand if not millions of dollars in revenue, and get the special picked up by FX. Late last year, C.K. put his first feature-length film Tomorrow Night from 1998 on his website for (again) $5.
