Crime drama Lilyhammer was the first original program ever distributed exclusively by Netflix, but it doesn’t get the same sort of acclaim as series like House of Cards and Orange is the New Black. Nonetheless, its second season was well-received by both critics and fans, and on November 21st, it will become the first Netflix original to debut its third season.
Lilyhammer stars Steven Van Zandt as a gangster who is trying to start a new life in the remote town of Lillehammer, Norway. Since its debut in 2012, the show has become quite popular in Norway; nearly one-fifth of the country’s population tuned into the debut episode.
“’Lilyhammer’ is a funny
and fantastic example of programming for a global audience — a comedic culture clash that’s drawn in viewers from around the world,” said Netflix chief content officer Ted Sarandos. “We’re especially proud of the many international awards the show has earned, cementing its cross-cultural appeal.”All eight episodes of Lilyhammer will simultaneously become available just past midnight on the 21st. As part of Netflix’s international expansion, the series will be available in seven countries, though that list does not include Norway. Instead, Norwegian viewers will have an earlier chance to view the series when it arrives on the NRK1 channel on October 29th.
