Whistle Sports Network Catches Linsanity, Partners With Jeremy Lin

Jeremy Lin, more than any other single athlete, has embraced the YouTube community. Even before he became a household name due to a remarkable run with the New York Knicks, Lin launched a YouTube channel of his own. As his star has grown, Lin has kept his channel active, and as he continues to make videos, he has partnered with Whistle Sports, the YouTube network dedicated to sports content.

On his channel, Lin has created videos alongside the most popular Asian-American creators on YouTube. His channel’s first ever offering featured KevJumba, who taught him how to create a good YouTube vlog. His most popular video is titled “How To Get Into Harvard”, and it features an appearance from Ryan Higa.

Lin, who is one of the few Asian-American players in NBA history, launched a global “Linsanity” trend when he led the Knicks to a series of remarkable wins in early 2012. After leaving New York to join the Houston Rockets, Lin recently arrived in Southern California after signing a deal with the Los Angeles Lakers.

Since arriving in Hollywood, Lin has only posted one video on his personal YouTube channel, but even without playing a game in Laker yellow, he has still attracted some attention. He starred in a popular viral video where he posed as a wax figure of himself and frightened tourists who came to take a close look. On Instagram, he made a splash when he expertly “dunked” on unsuspecting victims, including his mom.

Lin is an interesting partnership for Whistle Sports because he is one of the few pro athletes with his own YouTube channel. According Whistle Sports President Jeff Urban, only 300 of the approximately 30,000 professional athletes in the world are active creators on the world’s most popular video sharing site.

Even within that select group, Lin’s videos stand out. Now that he’s stationed in LA and partnered with a network, I’m expecting many more “dunk cams” in the near future.
