Stealth Startup Victorious Raises Cash To Work With YouTubers

A stealth startup catering to the YouTube community has reportedly raised a serious amount of funding. Victorious, which will help YouTube creators build their own websites and apps, has raised a round that Peter Kafka at Re/Code reports is in the $13 million range (though we can’t confirm if that number is accurate). Kleiner PerkinsLowercase Capital, and Dean Gilbert are among the apparent investors.

By helping online video creators build content outside of YouTube, Victorious will buy into a trend that helped define the industry in 2013. Essentially, creators are frustrated with

the aggressive revenue sharing split they can get on YouTube, and many of them have therefore attempted to attract their fans to sites, apps, and online video platforms that offer better revenue. Some multi-channel networks have utilized this strategy en masse. For instance, Maker Studios has built specific websites for some of its best-performing creators.

The specifics of Victorious’ plan are unknown at this time. Both the startup and its investors have yet to offer comment.
