#SMWLA Preview: ‘Pretty Little Liars’ Shows Social Media’s Pull On TV

From September 23-28, online companies, executives, and personalities will gather in Santa Monica for Social Media Week Los Angeles. To help showcase the incredible events that will be going down this year, Tubefilter will be offering daily previews of individual events. Check out the full schedule here and our schedule at a glance here.

Have you ever joined one of actress Shay Mitchell‘s ‘Twitter parties’? If you’re a fan of her show Pretty Little Liars, chances are you have–her weekly, mid-episode #PLLayWithShay social media conversations have generated an incredible one billion impressions. But what effect do Mitchell’s online exploits have on Pretty Little Liars‘ viewership and mainstream attention?

That question will be answered at Social Media Week Los Angeles. Mitchell will appear at a panel hosted by Fanology Social, a “social media studio” that helps brands harness the power of the user-generated Internet. Mitchell and Fanology’s CEO, Richard Janes, will be joined by representatives from ABC Family (the network on which Pretty Little Liars airs), Facebook, Variety, and TV By The Numbers.

With second screens rising in popularity and Nielsen doing all it can to factor Twitter into its ratings, the link between social media and TV is as relevant as ever. This panel is an opportunity to hear from the people who that link affects the most.

The ‘Tuned In’ panel will go down on Friday, September 27th at 12 PM at ROC Santa Monica. If you’re interested, you can sign up right here.
