Smosh Live Streams For $250,000 Indiegogo Campaign

Online fundraising is a fickle mistress. When Smosh kicked off an Indiegogo campaign to raise money for Food Battle: The Game, it seemed like a foregone conclusion that the top YouTube channel would easily reach its fundraising goal. After all, top YouTube creators like Toby Turner, Hannah Hart, and Freddie Wong had previously killed it on Kickstarter and Indiegogo, so why would a creative pair with more subscribers than any of their crowdfunding predecessors fall short?

Still, for whatever reason, Smosh’s Indiegogo campaign hasn’t yet generated the cash contributions commensurate with the YouTube channel’s subscriber base. With only a few hours left, Ian Hecox and Anthony Padilla are several thousand dollars short of their $250,000 goal, and they need to energize their fan their fans if they hope to collect the cool quarter million they desire. To raise awareness for the campaign, Smosh has launched its first ever live stream, with Ian and Anthony spending six straight hours on YouTube.

The live stream is pretty basic stuff: The creative duo are doing everything they can to keep their fans engaged, whether by answering questions or by eating the foods with which they might one day do battle or by shouting at their Wii Smosh Games style.

Ian and Anthony will continue their live Smoshiness until 6 PM PST, at which point they will still have a little more than two days left to collect the rest of the funds they need for their game. Among their 12 million fans, they should be able to find a few with enough disposable income to meet their campaign goals and help realize Food Battle: The Game. And since Hecox and Padilla are willing to twerk on the live stream for their fans’ amusement, we’d say the Smosh video game is as good as getting made.
