‘The Sub’ Pairs Miller64, Terrell Owens, And Intramural Sports

What do you get when you cross overly-competitive amateur athletes, low-calorie beer, and a notoriously melodramatic wide receiver? The answer is The Sub, a new branded series for Miller64 produced by Alloy Digital‘s DBG division.

The Sub‘s premise is simple: famous retired athletes show up at an intramural game and help lead the losing side to victory. The first episode features former football star Terrell Owens, who has finally caught onto a team after bouncing around the NFL and IFL the last few years. Owens shows up at a hotly contested flag football match between two extremely passionate amateur teams. When the losing team’s star player goes down to an injury, TO shows up and fills in, unsurprisingly leading the team to victory. Funny how that all works out, huh?

The Sub is a branded effort by Miller64, though the Miller Brewing Company’s low-calorie option

does not factor in the first episode in any ways other than providing a home for it and serving as the beer of choice at the post-game party. Given their gritty performance, I feel like the winning athletes at least deserve High Life. “We’re always looking to support the creation of compelling original content that marries the brand mission of Miller64 with memorable concepts,” said Elaine Obergfell, Miller64 marketing manager. “The Sub goes above and beyond to deliver an experience for consumers that we believe will encourage them to be more active in their own daily lives.”

Four more episodes of The Sub will air, with the last one arriving on August 1st. The other recent athletes featured will be basketball’s Gary Payton, baseball’s David Justice, volleyball’s Jennifer Kessy, and soccer’s Brandi Chastain. If The Sub needs more participants, I’m happy to join. I’m currently retired from my sport of choice (Scrabble) and I’d love to lead a losing team to victory.
