YouTube fashion network StyleHaul obtained a $6.5 investment round led by Bertelsmann at the end of February, but its recent activity suggests that cash flow was just the beginning. European media conglomerate RTL Group has sunk another $6 million into StyleHaul as the network plans to expand beyond YouTube distribution and into original content.
RTL is owned in part by Bertelsmann, giving the German investment group an even larger stake in Stylehaul. The fashion network has now r
aised $17 million to date, making it one of the richest MCNs on YouTube, especially among those focused on a particular genre. Thus far, Stylehaul has been most centered on YouTube, and the network as a whole claims 300 million monthly views. Also, it has a really spiffy channel trailer now:StyleHaul CEO Stephanie Horbaczewski told AllThingsD that she plans to use the funds to move the network beyond YouTube. She specifically noted a “shoppable player” similar to this cool gizmo that lets viewers click on the clothes Elijah Wood is wearing.
Other upcoming projects for StyleHaul include creating original content, continuing distribution efforts, and if the network’s recent trends are to be taken at face value, raising even more money.
