Watch The Five Contestants For Doritos’ ‘Crash The Super Bowl’

The biggest day of the year in advertising is coming up this Sunday, but as in recent years, fans don’t have to wait until the Super Bowl to laugh (or groan) at the featured ads. One of the companies leading the way in terms of pregame views is Doritos, which recently wrapped up its seventh annual Crash The Super Bowl contest, where one lucky fan’s chosen ad sees broadcast during the big game.

All five finalist ads were available on the Crash the Super Bowl YouTube channel, while fans were able to vote for their favorite on Facebook. After weeks of intense competition, Mark Freiburger‘s “Fashionista Daddy” spot is sitting pretty, proving that tough guys do in fact wear pink.

Freiburger, a filmmaker originally from North Carolina, has also released a behind-the-scenes video

where we learn, among other things, when it’s appropriate to create pixie dust in post-production. Freiburger shot his ad for $300 (not bad for a Super Bowl spot!) but he could soon have plenty more high-cost production experience; if his ad bests its Doritos competition in USA Today’s Ad Meter, he will win a chance to work with Michael Bay on the next Transformers movie. I hope he likes explosions.

The five finalists also include several more entries utilizing animals (including “Fetch”, my personal favorite) and a fifth that relies on slapstick humor. None of the joke concepts are particularly groundbreaking, but it’s exciting to see at least one company continuing to give a voice both to its fans and the YouTube public.
