It Has Begun: YOMYOMF Network Debuts Justin Lin’s Bananapocalypse

Fast 5 director Justin Lin has teamed up with KevJumba (Kevin Wu) and NigaHiga (Ryan Higa) to launch the YOMYOMF Network, one of YouTube’s slate of funded original channels announced last October.

Today YOMYOMF launched a promo video “Bananapocalypse” which stars KevJumba, Higa, and Chester See in what could be best described as a massive pillow fight without the pillows.

The crazy video features appearances from Jessica Alba, Tyrese, Sung Kang (Fast Five), Masi Oka, Wayne Brady, Harry Shum Jr. (Glee), and a bunch of puppets.

“This is where the magic is made and all of Google’s money is spent—on cool stuff like Jessica Alba washing a car with her sexy friends,” KevJumba says in the video.

Lin, whose directing credits also include MTV’s Better Luck Tomorrow,Universal’s Fast & Furious and episodes of the NBC comedy Community, created the YOMYOMF channel out of YouOffendMeYouOffendMyFamily.com, an Asian American pop culture blog he founded in 2009.

“Fun fact,” KevJumba notes, “He’s only directing the Fast and Furious

movies so he can focus on his real passion: YouTube videos.”

YOMYOMF was started so creative and interesting individuals could come together to share their point-of-views in an honest and entertaining way,” says Lin. “Our new channel is the natural evolution of that philosophy and I look forward to working with new and old friends who share that sensibility.”

In addition to Lin, Higa, Wu, and See, YOMYOMF founders include Abdul KhanPhilip W. ChungCash Warren, and NBA star Baron Davis.

The YOMYOMF Network has already attracted a diverse roster of well-known talent including Far East Movement (hip hop quartet, “Like a G6” #1 on the Billboard charts), David Henry Hwang (Tony Award-winning writer, M. Butterfly), Danny Pudi (Community), Joe & Anthony Russo (Emmy Award-winning directors, Arrested Development), and Iris Yamashita (Academy Award-nominated writer, Letters from Iwo Jima).
