EVENT: How Do Musicians and Labels Leverage Twitter and Online Video? Find Out!

The music biz is changing. (Obviously, right!?! You’re like, “Tell me something I don’t know!”) And it’s easy to see that change from a macro level. You didn’t have to be in the audience for VEVO CEO Rio Caraeff’s presentation about online music video viewing metrics – like the 250 million people around the globe that watch a combined total of 3 billion music videos on VEVO per month – at his company’s digital content upfront to know new and social media have dramatically changed the music industry, from creation to distribution, sales to consumption, and everything in between.

But what about on a micro level? How are social media sites and online video platforms effecting and benefiting individual artists? How can a burgeoning band use Twitter to its full potential? How should an indie act approach music videos in the age of YouTube? How can artists and labels successfully leverage social media and online video?

Great questions! And an upcoming panel on Wednesday, May 9th at 7PM in Brooklyn, New York will have a few of the answers.

Social Media and Online Video in Music will be held at Williamsburgh’s private co-working space The Yard and feature the following music and new media industry professionals:

  • Tatiana Simonian – Head of Music for Twitter. Formerly of Disney Music Group, Simonian’s previous digital marketing clients also included the Smashing Pumpkins, Placebo and Virgin EMI among others. A journalist of fifteen years, Simonian was associate editor of Anthem Magazine and also wrote for the LA Times, Weekly and Rolling Stone. She is also a musician.
  • Benjamin Jacobs – Label Manager of Fool’s Gold Records. Works with artists such as A-Trak, Danny Brown, and Flosstradamus.
  • Jonathan Pardo – Manager, Free Association Management. Works with Caveman (Fat Possum Records), Milkman, Curtis Peoples, and Boyce Avenue (3 Peace Records), one of the first independent bands to break out on the Internet.
  • Brandon Martinez – CEO and co-founder of INDMUSIC, a YouTube Content Network that helps independent artists and labels monetize their video content, including Mad Decent Records, Mr. Muthafuckin’ eXquire, Brendan Benson, and more.

Be sure to RSVP for the event here. And enjoy the free beer courtesy of The Yard. I’m guessing there will be great music, too.
