2026 has been a big year for Brazilian creators. CazéTV’s World Cup streams ruled the summer, and as the weather turns autumnal, Lucan Pevidor is dominating the YouTube game. Pevidor topped the Global Sub Top 50 for the fourth week in a row after adding 1.6 million new subscribers. He now has nearly 39 million subscribers in all.

Pevidor might go through all of September without leaving the #1 spot, but he’s not the only creator on a hot streak. By taking cues from a new wave of generative AI hubs, creators across the world are finding ways to increase their numbers several times over.
Can human creators learn from the deluge of AI slop that shows up on YouTube?
Despite YouTube’s best efforts, AI slop is taking over our Top 50 rankings. Each week, the charts are filled with channels that seem to feature little to no human input.
That trend shouldn’t be too surprising. After all, genAI creators can turn out videos at a lightning-quick clip and can prioritize the qualities and references that are guaranteed to bring in as much attention as possible.
How can humans keep up? As LLMs become more sophisticated, social media platforms are encouraging creators to offer up a melange of humanity and technological innovation. Google wants advertisers to adopt that approach, too. And some creators, like Turing Games, have found unique artistry at the intersection of manpower and AI.
In the Global Sub Top 50, I noticed a channel that’s trying a different strategy. Respondemesta is seeing what happens when a human tries to recreate the AI-generated videos that pop up in millions of feeds.
In one of Respondemesta’s recent videos, the Colombian creator tried to offer up his versions of AI-generated foodstuffs that appear in popular videos. His attempts are amusing, his final products are as bizarre as the items that inspired them, and his use of translation tools allows his long-form video to reach a wide audience.
Videos like this one led Respondemesta to a huge week on YouTube. He picked up 310,000 weekly subscribers, which allowed him to reach 13th place in the Global Sub Top 50. He ranked sixth among all Global Sub Top 50 entrants who hail from Latin America.
In a world where LLMs repeatedly scrape and repurpose human content, it’s nice to see a resourceful creator who isn’t afraid to flip the script. Respondemesta is showing that reimagining AI can be as powerful as using it yourself.
At the same time, the LLMs are still enjoying a huge advantage. There are plenty of genAI channels in the Global Sub Top 50, and they are growing so fast that few humans can keep up with them. The Indonesian channel called landasan fakta was nowhere near the Top 50 two months. But now, thanks to an onslaught of genAI content, it is sitting in 17th place in our subscriber ranking.

YouTube must continue to work hard to ensure that humans can still have seats at the table in the genAI age. Fighting back against slop is important, but creating conditions that make it easier for humans to keep up is valuable, too.
Until platforms achieve the right balance, creators will have to find innovative solutions. That’s what Respondemesta did, and he deserves his place near the top of the subscriber chart — even if his weird-looking watermelon child is as bizarre as its AI-generated precursor.
