Podcasters influenced the 2024 election, so Spotify is setting up shop in D.C.

Spotify‘s quest for more podcasting dollars is taking it to the nation’s capital. As political pundits flock to D.C. to witness the Inauguration Day that will take place on January 20, 2025, Spotify is expected to cater to podcasters by inviting them to brunch and giving them access to a pop-up studio space.

According to Bloomberg, Spotify has already invited some podcasters to attend a brunch that will celebrate “the power of podcasts in this election.” Spotify itself has not yet offered public comment on its Inauguration Day plans.

Ahead of the 2024 U.S. presidential election, major candidates flocked to podcasts that typically top Spotify’s charts, such as The Joe Rogan Experience and Alex Cooper’s Call Her Daddy. President-elect Donald Trump‘s ability to connect with young, predominantly male podcasters was particularly pivotal. Those appearances bolstered Trump’s credibility among Gen Z men, and creators who hosted him on their shows got shout-outs during the ensuing victory celebration.

Spotify wants to be the go-to source for those buzzy political conversations. To move toward that goal, the Stockholm-based music streamer has greatly enhanced its video podcast capabilities while revamping its creator monetization program. At the same time, Spotify continues to benefit from its ongoing relationship with Rogan and his namesake podcast.

The trip to Washington will help Spotify get in with more big names in the world of political podcasts. The use of a pop-up studio is reminiscent of the strategy YouTube has used to court granular creator communities within major cities.

As fate would have it, Inauguration Day will take place one day after the current start date for a U.S. law that forces a ban or divestiture of TikTok. If TikTok does run into trouble on the 19th, Spotify will be right there on the 20th to remind creators what it can do for them.
