YouTube has a new feature that could encourage more collaboration among Shorts creators. The platform is testing a sticker titled Add Yours, which allows users to solicit remixed videos from viewers.
Details about Add Yours are available, as per usual, in a video on the Creator Insider YouTube channel. The feature is currently available to a “small number of Shorts creators around the world.” Those guinea pigs will be able to able to locate the Add Yours option within the Shorts creation menu YouTube describes as the “sticker picker.”
“If you’re a Creator in the experiment you’ll see an ‘Add Yours’ sticker available in the sticker picker,” a YouTube rep explained in the Creator Insider clip. “To try it out, record a Short, tap ‘Next,’ then tap the sticker icon and select ‘Add Yours’ and type in what you like others to respond to.”
As responses pile up, they will be collected on a single page. Creators and viewers who click on the sticker will be able to see all the remixes that have been added since the initial upload date.
Tools that foster collaboration among short-form creators have become common. TikTok’s Duets option dates back to its Musical.ly days, and Instagram — as it so often does — has rolled out a copycat version of that feature. YouTube’s play for stronger short-form networking could be a boon for a fast-rising format. Back in March, the Google-owned hub revealed that a quarter of its Partner Program members have monetized their Shorts.
There are typically two options for experimental YouTube features: They either experience a full rollout or never make it past the testing phase. Keep an eye on Creator Insider over the coming months if you want to keep tabs on the direction YouTube takes for the Add Yours sticker.
