TikTok’s Effect Creator Rewards program is now available in more countries with a lower barrier to entry

TikTok is bringing its Effect Creator Rewards program to creators in 53 different regions. The app has announced an expansion of its ten-month-old revenue stream, which was launched last May to pay the creators behind its most used video effects.

Effect Creator Rewards provides added monetization for creators who publish AR add-ons through its Effect House platform. The program initially launched with a $6 million fund earmarked to Effect House users. The launch was initially limited to just six regions, but an October update brought countries like Australia, Brazil, and Canada into the Effect Creator Rewards program while also loosening the requirements for enrollment.

The latest change to Effect Creator Rewards looks a lot like the previous update. 33 countries — including Peru, Mexico, Egypt, Taiwan, and Thailand — just got access to the program.

Overall, creators will now have an easier time qualifying for Effect Creator Rewards. Initially, creators could only turn on the revenue stream if their effects had been used in 500,000 unique videos within 90 days. In October, the threshold dropped down to 200,000 unique videos. Now, it has been lowered to 100,000 unique videos.

Though it will now be easier for TikTokers to start making money from their effects, the terms of the program have shifted. Private videos will no longer count toward the 100,000 minimum, so creators will have to reach that benchmark through public content alone.

To make up for any revenue dips that may cause, TikTok is switching up the nature of its payouts. The Effect Creator Rewards program will move from a flat fee model to a proportional system that will pay creators for each qualifying video above 100,000. With that model, which sounds a lot like the one Facebook has implemented for its Reels, payouts only stop when creators reach a hard cap or 90 days after an effect’s initial publication. TikTok told TechCrunch that several creators have already hit the maximum payouts of $14,000 per effect and $50,000 per month.
