TikTok’s Effect House monetization program expands to new regions, lowers entry threshold

Just five months after its launch, TikTok‘s Effect Creator Rewards Program is getting its first significant upgrade. The revenue stream, which provides payouts to the individuals behind popular video effects, is coming to 14 more countries and getting new, reduced entry requirements.

In its early days, the Effect Creator Rewards Program was limited to six countries: United States, France, Germany, Italy, Spain, and the United Kingdom. TikTok is now tripling the list of eligible regions by granting access to the program in Australia, Brazil, Canada, Finland, Indonesia, Ireland, Japan, Korea, Malaysia, Netherlands, Philippines, Poland, United Arab Emirates, and Vietnam.

Initially, creators could only qualify for the Rewards Program’s $6 million fund if one of their effects had been used in 500,000 unique videos within 90 days of its original publication date. Thanks to TikTok’s new terms, creators are eligible for compensation once their effects appear in 200,000 videos. To qualify for the program, entrants must have published at least three effects that have appeared in 1,000 videos and at least five effects overall.

In a move that will answer critics of TikTok’s original Creator Fund, the app is also updating the structure of the Rewards Program so that its payouts are more dynamic. Rather than paying out lump sums as effects reach certain benchmarks, TikTok is varying the Rewards Program depending on each creator’s region. The new rules also provide more cash-out opportunities for creators who have already started earning from their effects.

The Effect Creator Rewards Program, like the recently launched Creativity Program, is one effort TikTok is making to address criticisms of its in-app monetization options. Effects creators can now be paid fairly for their work, and the deal is only getting sweeter.
