Afterparty raises $5 million to develop AI versions of creators like Tana Mongeau and Matt Steffanina

Creators can only be in one place at a time, but many of them have fans all over the world who want to meet them IRL. Afterparty is developing a solution to that logistical issue. The creator tech company has raised $5 million in fresh funding to build a platform where fans will interact with AI versions of their favorite influencers.

The new platform has been dubbed Afterparty AI. Like other Afterparty ventures, this one is all about fan engagement. Creators can develop AI avatars that mimic their looks and mannerisms. Those characters host one-on-one interactions with fans, thus allowing stars like Steffanina and Mongeau to free up time in their busy schedules.

“Since day one, Afterparty has given me the tools to strengthen fan relationships in a way that also unlocks new revenue streams and unforgettable fan experiences. With Afterparty AI, they’re forging the future of interactive fan engagement. I can’t wait to interact with more fans and empower them in achieving their own goals – whether it’s in choreography, building a business through a shared love of the arts, or mastering their next dance move.”

The $5 million injection of funding follows a pair of previous rounds, which Afterparty used to build its original platform. The tech startup is one of several companies that use blockchain-based technology to establish exclusive spaces and cultivate gated experiences for fans. Preexisting Afterparty services include live streaming, collectibles, and IRL community events.

The rise of AI has unlocked new creative possibilities on platforms like YouTube, but it has also raised questions about digital ownership and copyright. To ensure that its creator-inspired AI characters are completely above board, Afterparty is working closely with talent. Beyond Steffanina and Mongeau, other Afterparty partners include Mads Lewis and Nicolle Figueroa.

The $5 million funding round was led by Blockchange Ventures, with participation from existing investors Acrew Capital, Act One Ventures, and Tamarack Global, as well as new investors Wilson Sonsini and Vinny Lingham. Across three funding rounds, Afterparty has now raised $12 million in total.
