Fintech company Karat launched a podcast to fall in love with creators

Karat has come up with some creative perks for its cardholders. The fintech company, founded in 2020 by Eric Wei and Will Kim, celebrated its creator economy roots by placing some prominent partners on billboards across the United States.

Now, Karat has come up with a new way to support its high-profile clientele. The Karat Podcast, available on Instagram, YouTube, and the company’s website, is an intimate space where Wei encourages guest creators to get deep.

There are a lot of creator interviews out there, but The Karat Podcast attempts to differentiate itself through its depth of conversation and breadth of interesting guests. The format is inspired by the 36 Questions to Fall in Love, a list of questions that ask about wants, needs, desires, memories, and more.

The 36 Questions have provided rich answers thus far. Inaugural Karat Podcast guest Nas Daily credited Wei with a succinct explanation of his marriage. After TikToker J.T. Barnett came onto the show, he  described the experience as “a big therapy session with creators.”

Wei named fellow interviewers Colin and Samir as dream guests for The Karat Podcast. But while The Colin and Samir Show often focuses on the business side of the creator economy, Karat is trying to be weightier. “We’re entirely focused on going deep and personal,” Wei told Tubefilter. “You hear less for example on Nas Daily’s latest venture and more on — he feels like a loser compared to MrBeast and constantly trying to catch up.”

Karat’s name is in the title of the podcast, but the show doesn’t outwardly promote Wei and Kim’s company. Despite Karat’s position in the industry, its podcast doesn’t talk about finance at all.

That doesn’t mean The Karat Podcast provides no organic benefits. Wei said the show has sparked a 15% follower increase on Instagram, and it has convinced some creators to become Karat clients.

In total, more than 30 episodes of The Karat Podcast have already been recorded. They will roll out on a weekly basis.
