Twitch is instituting a new payment scheme for creators to make monetization more reliable, while guaranteeing itself a certain number of hours streamed per month.
The company’s new Ads Incentive Program (or AIP, pronunced ‘ape) aims to introduce “predictability into a revenue source that rarely provides it: ads,” the streamer shared in a blog post.
The program will be available to select Partners and Affiliates who agree to stream for a certain number of hours (while running ads) in exchange for a flat, monthly payout. The tool will live within Ads Manager, Twitch’s ad scheduling dashboard that’s used by thousands of creators, it says.
The aim of AIP is also to take away the guesswork when it comes to monthly ad payouts, and the time it takes for creators to manage their ads on each stream.
Creators who are eligible for AIP will see an incentive offer in their Ads Manager dashboards, Twitch says, with different offers that vary per creator. For example, the platform might offer a creator $100 if she agrees to stream 40 hours while running two minutes worth of ads per hour, or $300 for three minutes worth of hourly ads, or $500 for four minutes.
Once accepted, creators must stream the minimum number of hours. Beyond that threshold, creators will collect ad earnings as they normally would. Creators can also opt out of an incentive at any time, at which point they will receive a prorated payment for the number of hours streamed.
Twitch is currently accepting feedback with respect to the AIP, which interested parties can furnish right here.
