Hulu Launches Digital Shop Selling Its Ugly Christmas Sweaters

Ugly sweater season is upon us–and Hulu, for one, is getting into the swing of things.

Hulu has been producing limited-edition ugly Christmas sweaters as promo items for its original shows since 2019. In 2020, it ran a giveaway where it gave out thousands of ugly sweaters themed to original shows like The Handmaid’s Tale and Little Fires Everywhere to fans who tweeted or Instagrammed with the hashtag #HuluSweaterSweepstakes.

Now the streamer has launched Shop Hulu, a digital storefront selling general Hulu merch as well as merch for nearly 30 shows, from licensed series like Grey’s Anatomy and How to Get Away with Murder to originals like What We Do in the Shadows.

And, in addition to vending standard items like T-shirts, mugs, art prints, and phone cases, the shop is offering Hulu’s ugly sweaters, making this the first time they’ve been outright purchasable for anyone who wants them.

Hulu’s 2021 lineup of ugly sweaters includes pieces for originals including Love, Victor, Solar Opposites, The Great, The Handmaid’s Tale, and Wu-Tang: An American Saga. The collection will drop in the shop Nov. 30.

Hulu says that 100% of revenue from the first 1,000 sweaters bought before Dec. 31, 2021, will go to Feeding America. TechCrunch did the math and figured that means Hulu will donate a max of around $55,000, if all 1,000 sweaters are purchased.

The streamer plans to regularly put out holiday-themed collections plus collections themed for events like show premieres. A collection for its animated adult sitcom Solar Opposites will go up next week, timed to the release of the show’s holiday special.

Hulu also plans to offer sales, beginning with discount events on Black Friday and Cyber Monday.
