TikTok ‘Jump’ Program Will Enable Creators To Link To Third-Party Mini-Apps, Like Recipes And Quizzes

TikTok has announced today a new venture called TikTok Jump, which will allow creators to link to various mini-apps in their content — including recipes, quizzes, and the ability to make restaurant reservations — all of which are built by third-party providers.

While the potential use cases for Jumps are limitless, their intention is to dynamically extend the TikTok experience into real-world action, product head Sean Kim wrote in a company blog post. Jumps are compatible with HTML5 and require minimal technical integration, according to the company, thus making them particularly easy to build and deploy.

A select group of creators are currently able to use Jumps, and the feature will continue to roll out more broadly, TikTok says.

In terms of developers, early beta collaborators include cooking app Whisk

, meditation app Breathwrk, learning tools company Quizlet, sports stats platform StatMuse, and restaurant guide Tabelog. Some examples of Jumps include calming breathing exercises, Spanish and French vocabulary flashcards, interesting sports stats, movie reviews, and beauty tutorials. Additional partners launching Jumps in coming weeks include BuzzFeed, learning app Jumprope, messaging service IRL, and content recommendation service Watcha.

Applications to become a Jumps provider are available here.

“We are thrilled to be a leading partner in TikTok Jump,” Whisk head Nick Holzherr said in a statement. “Since initiating a limited beta earlier this year, TikTok and Whisk have helped alleviate a longstanding problem that recipe creators face: how to allow TikTok users to view and save full recipe content.”
