Have you heard? Another YouTuber on Netflix, Dude Perfect’s CEO shuffle, and a cow gamer.

Each week, we handpick a selection of stories to give you a snapshot of trends, updates, business moves, and more from around the creator industry.

This week, Netflix’s spending spree on creator content keeps on coming, creators are in conflict with executives, and a bovine is a l33t gamer.

Creator commotion

Drew Binsky is the latest YouTube star bringing videos to Netflix. Binsky, who has visited every country in the world, is one of YouTube’s premier travel vloggers. Starting on September 19, Binsky will bring a selection of videos to Netflix and will post new uploads there on the same date he uploads them to YouTube. I guess those seven-digit payments aren’t deterring all creators from accepting Netflix offers.

MrBeast gives YouTube-style plaques to his employees. A LinkedIn post from a departing MrBeast employee shows some of the bling he picked up while working for the world’s biggest creator. MrBeast is a student of YouTube, so it’s no surprise that he is borrowing some of the platform’s famous reward items.

Movers and shakers

Andrew Yaffe is out as Dude Perfect’s CEO. Yaffe, a former NBA employee, heralded a new era of professionalized creator channels when he arrived at Dude Perfect HQ two years ago. But Yaffe reportedly clashed with the Dude Perfect board regarding the group’s future direction, so he is now moving on, with Patrick Hurley replacing him as the interim CEO of Dude Perfect.

Good Good loses two execs as Callaway ad fiasco rages on. It’s been a steep fall from grace for the group once heralded as the future of golf on YouTube. After Good Good members starred in a tone deaf ad, CEO Matt Kendrick and President Joe Flannery have both surrendered their roles at the company. Good Good co-founder Nahid Giga will take over as the interim CEO.

Pop culture minute

Another YouTube horror impresario is going to Hollywood. The wave of green lights brought on by Backrooms and Obsession shows no signs of slowing down. Sam Evenson, the creator behind the Grimoire Horror channel, is teaming with the producers of Smile to adapt his short “Ignore It” into his feature film debut. Lily Collins is attached.

A feature-length documentary will celebrate Technoblade’s legacy. The 2022 death of a beloved Minecraft star left a deep imprint that the game’s community still feels to this day. An upcoming doc — fittingly titled Technoblade Never Dies — will explore that imprint. Backers involved in the project include Riot Games and the Minecraft-adjacent studio Hypixel.

If you want summer to last forever, Alex Cooper has a series for you. Last year, the media mogul and host of the Call Her Daddy

podcast delved into the world of reality competition programming with her Unwell Winter Games. The natural complement to that series would be the Unwell Summer Games, and whaddaya know, that’s the name of a new project Cooper will bring to YouTube on September 7. Adam W will host.

The ad world

Chipotle is putting 100 creators in charge of a national ad campaign. By utilizing UGC footage shot inside its locations, Chipotle will build a campaign that will air on TV and across TikTok, Reels, and Shorts. I’d imagine that the creators who talk about how much better Chipotle used to be were not invited to participate.

Sheetz is bringing a Fuel Stop Feast to the First We Feast channel. The hub best-known for hosting Hot Ones is teaming up with a beloved Pennsylvania gas station to highlight the culinary creations that can be made using the ingredients from Sheetz’s MTO brand. Cooking show royalty, including Adam Richman and creators like Ian Fujimoto, will bring Fuel Stop Feast to life.

The dream of the 90s is alive in Emma Chamberlain’s wardrobe. Gen Z is all about nostalgia these days, so J. Crew recruited a one-time Gen Z it girl to be the face of a 90s-inspired campaign. Chamberlain doesn’t post new vlogs all that often, but I’d love to get a behind-the-scenes look at her J. Crew team-up.

The biz

Markiplier is on an investment streak. First, the iconic gamer became GoPro’s biggest shareholder. Now, he’s taking his talents (and, more importantly, his wallet) to the software startup Strada. Thanks to Markiplier’s backing, Strada will be able to build a service that makes shared storage easier for video editing teams.

Want to sell a home? Just tell YouTube that the home isn’t selling. Classic clickbait tactics have come to the world of real estate. Realtors are getting more traffic when they position their properties as diamonds in the rough that haven’t blown up yet. Let me guess: I won’t believe the asking prices attached to these homes?

The internet is a strange place

CapitalCowPilot is an EVE Online player on Twitch (and also a cow). Has the Twitch Plays format gone too far? I could imagine a dog or an octopus playing a complex MMORPG, but a cow? Based on what I’ve read, CapitalCowPilot’s avatar stands idle for long periods of time. I mean, yeah. We’ve got a ruminant at the controller here.

Are you more interested in the metaverse if it’s Slipknot-themed? Iowa’s favorite nu metal band is latching onto the hot tech trend of a few years ago. The whole metaverse thing seems like it has run its course, but if I can have a chance to roleplay as the guy in Slipknot who just bangs a trash can lid, I might take the band up on their invitation to the Knotverse.

A Jimothy trading card turned into a $21,000 sale. Everyone loves the Seattle-area raccoon with an unusual appearance and a feisty attitude. But I didn’t know that some people like Jimothy so much that they’re willing to pay thousands of dollars to get their hands on a free giveaway from a Seattle Mariners game.
