Bella Poarch, The #YouHaveTo Hashtag, “Savage Love” Top TikTok’s Biggest Trends Of 2020

TikTok has unveiled today its Top 100, an annual compilation of the year’s most impactful videos, memes, songs, and creators over the course of 2020 — arguably the year that TikTok ascended to heightened prominence amid the onset of the coronavirus pandemic.

“Across the U.S., our community made TikTok the year of everything from cranberry juice drinking skateboarders, cottagecore fairies, theater kids, and emerging stars across the music and fashion worlds, to random things that just makes sense like pancake cereal, a goose who throws it back, and carrot bacon,” the company wrote in a blog post. “And we are here for all of it.”

The top viral video of 2020 was the creator Bella Poarch doing a lip-sync read of “M To The B,” according to TikTok — though it’s unclear how exactly the platform tabulated its rankings for the year’s top viral videos. In that category, Poarch is followed by 420DoggFace208’s infamous skateboarding video while he grooves out to Fleetwood Mac and sips on a bottle of cranberry juice.

TikTok also ranked its most popular hashtags of the year, with the PSA-themed #YouHaveTo topping the list, followed by #BlindingLights — the hit Weeknd song.

And finally, TikTok turned a lens on its creator community in three categories: ‘Rising Stars‘, ‘Voices For Change‘, and ‘The A-List.’ Rising Stars looked at native creators, and the list was unsurprisingly topped by TikTok’s most-followed creator, Charli D’Amelio. The Voices For Change category looked at creators who have most effectively used their platforms to spread awareness for social causes and advocate for marginalized communities — with DrLeslie leading the pack. Finally, The A-List compiled a ranking of existing celebs who made an impact on TikTok, with Jason Derulo taking top honors.

You can check out all of TikTok’s year-end rankings — including its most-used songs (Jawsh 685 and Derulo’s “Savage Love”), top food videos trends (pancake cereal), and style and beauty clips — right here.
