Justin Bieber Drops Trailer, Reveals Release Date For YouTube Original Docuseries ‘Seasons’

Twelve years after he was discovered thanks to song covers he posted on YouTube, pop star Justin Bieber has debuted the trailer and revealed the release date for his YouTube Original docuseries, Justin Bieber: Seasons.

The 10-episode series is an intimate portrait of Bieber’s personal and professional life, picking up after he abruptly cancelled the final stops in his 2017 Purpose World Tour, Variety reports. It’ll touch on his relationship with his wife, Hailey, his struggles with depression and drug addiction, and his creative process while writing and recording new music for Seasons.

Seasons itself doesn’t yet have an announced release date, but the docuseries will bow Jan. 27 on Bieber’s YouTube channel—where, despite having only posted five videos (all of them music videos or trailers) since 2016, he is the most-followed artist on the platform, with 47.8 million subscribers and around 5 million monthly views.

Like YouTube’s other original series post-paywall, JB: Seasons will have a staggered release for those who aren’t YouTube Premium subscribers. That means episode one will go out Jan. 27, and new episodes will premiere each Monday and Wednesday thereafter. Premium subscribers will have access to all 10 episodes Jan. 27.

“When I was getting started, YouTube provided me a platform and a community where I could share music, experiences, and moments with my fans,” Bieber said in a statement. “It feels great to partner with YouTube for this original documentary series. I want my fans to be part of this journey.”

YouTube told Variety the series is a “homecoming” for Bieber. The company’s global head of originals, Susanne Daniels, added, “Justin Bieber’s courage as an artist is truly admirable and we are grateful he continues to share his inspiring story on YouTube. As we aim to spotlight authentic struggles and real-life triumps in our YouTube Originals, we are thrilled to add this special project for our 2020 slate.”

Bieber, with his production company Bieber Time Films, is serving as one of the series’ executive producers, along with his manager Scooter Braun, SB FilmsAllison Kaye and Scott Manson, and OBB PicturesMichael D. Ratner, Scott Ratner, and Kfir Goldberg. Michael D. Ratner is the series’ main director; photographer Joe Termini is also directing select episodes. On YouTube’s end, its head of unscripted originals, Alex Piper, and its originals development lead, Cara Casey, are overseeing the series’ production.

JB: Seasons is Bieber’s first YouTube project, but far from his first documentary. He previously starred in the 2011 concert docu Justin Bieber: Never Say Never, which grossed $99 million against a $13 million budget, and its sequel, Justin Bieber’s Believe, which grossed $32.2 million against a $5 million budget.
