Snap Dropping Complex-Produced Doc About Incarcerated Rapper Tekashi69 (Trailer)

After landing a breakout hit docuseries alongside viral-Dr. Phil-guest-turned-rapper Danielle ‘Bhad Bhabie’ Bregoli, Snapchat is set to launch yet another unscripted original about a controversy-ridden figure in the hip hop space.

The platform today released the trailer for its latest Snap Original, Tekashi69 vs. The World. Premiering on Dec. 21, the docuseries will trace the rise and fall of the controversial rapper — né Daniel Hernandez — who is distinguished by his rainbow-hued hair, numerous face tattoos, and frequent run-ins with the law.

The doc will take a look at the 23-year-old’s life to date, from growing up in Brooklyn to his chart-topping career to his legal woes and subsequent incarceration. (He is facing a 47-year prison sentence after pleading guilty to racketeering, weapons, and drug charges — though there are reports that Prosecutors may be asking for a more lenient sentence in light of his cooperation in other matters).

The series will feature interviews with friends and collaborators, as well as up-to-the-minute updates as the 23-year-old’s legal situation develops. The show will be available on Snapchat’s Discover

page, which can be accessed via a simple swipe to the right of the camera. The series, produced by Complex, marks the first in a forthcoming franchise from Snap dubbed Vs. The World, which will explore the lives of other notable figures in hip hop, sports, and entertainment.

Snap says that its Snap Originals, launched last October, have seen watch time triple over the past year. At Advertising Week in September, the company unveiled its latest programming slate, including the Tekashi project as well as shows featuring Nikita Dragun and Alabama State‘s plus-sized dance squad The Honeybeez. Snap is also producing bite-sized Creator Shows alongside top digital stars like Emma Chamberlain, Maddie Ziegler, Denzel Dion, The Real Tarzann, and FaZe Banks.
