Google Brings ‘Shopping Ads’ Format To YouTube Ahead Of Holiday Frenzy

Ahead of the frenzied holiday shopping season, parent company Google is porting its Shopping Ads format to YouTube. The ads, which are derived in accordance with search queries conducted on Google, will show up in the YouTube home feed as well as within search results.

Shopping Ads appear as a carousel of static images above YouTube search results, and also as a carousel between videos on the home feed, AdAge reports. If a YouTube visitor has searched Google for running-related subjects, for instance, they may be served Shopping Ads for Puma — which is the official launch partner for the format on YouTube.

This is far from the only Shopping-centric ad product that exists on YouTube, AdAge

notes. Earlier this year, the company unveiled Discovery ads — or image-based ads that don’t necessarily correlate to one isngle product but instead seek to inspire users to make a purchases. (Shopping ads fundamentally different insomuch as rather than inspiring a purchase, they target users who have already expressed a sense of intent — and thus focus on a single type of item, like running shoes).

Furthermore, back in 2015, YouTube introduced TrueView For Shopping ads — or video ads with a click-to-purchase feature, AdAge reports.
