To celebrate Earth Day today, YouTube is promoting a bevy of creators who are dedicated to sustainability in the fashion, lifestyle, and beauty realms.
The video giant has also produced an original clip to share the inspiring story of Krystn Keller, who taught herself how to make natural soaps to treat her son’s severe eczema from tutorials on YouTube. After formulating a recipe that was free of dyes and chemicals that helped clear Elliot’s skin, Keller founded her own Keller Works body and skin care brand, which is now vended at Whole Foods in Alabama as well as online. That video about Keller is housed within the YouTube Learning hub, a space on YouTube — as well as a financial commitment — whereby the video giant is seeking to support education-focused videos.
The other creators that YouTube is promoting in a blog post today include sustainable fashion vloggers Justine Leconte and BestDressed; vegetarian chef Canadian Candace Hutchings; zero-waste advocate Shelbizleee; van family vloggers Jinti Fell; and clean beauty creator Allana Davison.
YouTube also says that sustainability has increasingly become a trend on the platform today. Sustainable fashion hauls have increased over 1,300%, notes YouTube staffer Earnest Pettie, while views on videos that provided eco-friendly tips doubled from 2017 to 2018. And throughout last October alone, YouTube said that it saw a seven-fold increase in monthly views for videos that contained the words ‘clean beauty’ in the title.
