Amanda Cerny, DeStorm Power, and King Bach’s Video Platform Zeus Inks Deal With SAG-AFTRA

SAG-AFTRA, which represents screen actors as well as those in the television and radio space, just signed a deal with subscription video platform Zeus, co-founded by social stars Amanda Cerny, DeStorm Power, and Andrew ‘King Bach’ Bachelor.

Per the deal, which was announced today during Social Media Week Los Angeles, content creators on Zeus will gain a direct route to SAG-AFTRA membership, according to an exclusive report by Variety. Zeus content will also get union coverage from SAG-AFTRA.

SAG-AFTRA called the agreement with Zeus “historic,” according to Variety’s report. “Zeus’ business model lives at the intersection of entertainment, technology, and storytelling, and it is essential that we set a precedent to protect our members in this space,” said the organization’s national executive director, David White.

Cerny, Power, and Bachelor, all of whom originally gained recognition on Vine, announced Zeus in November 2017, nearly a year after Twitter shut down the six-second video app

. At the time, Zeus aimed to featured short and long-form video starring the three creators, who together count about 70 million social media followers. The influencers also announced a plan to mentor other creators who would make content for the platform. Television producer Lemuel Plummer (of BET’s The Westbrooks and Oxygen’s Preachers of LA) co-founded the streaming service. It is set to debut on July 13 for $3.99 per month.

“From the beginning, David White and SAG-AFTRA’s staff understood our vision of building a platform for creators and by creators, to provide our audiences with a unique streaming experience,” said Power in a statement.

Zeus will feature ad-free, exclusive scripted and unscripted content, in both series and standalone video formats. Other social stars in addition to Cerny, Power, and Bachelor will appear in content spanning genres like fitness, dance, comedy, and talk shows.
