In Earnings Report, Netflix Says Dave Chappelle Special Is Its Most-Watched Stand-Up So Far

Netflix has shared its quadrennial earnings report, and events in the first three months of 2017 included the release of the streamer’s most-viewed stand-up comedy program to date. A pair of Dave Chappelle specials released on March 21st have topped all other Netflix stand-up offerings so far, according to the company.

The specials, titled “The Age of Spin” and “Deep in the Heart of Texas,” were packaged together as “Collection 1” of Netflix’s deal with Chappelle. The former Chappelle’s Show creator will add a third special to that mix at a later date. “We have also stepped up our investment in stand-up comedy which we believe can help grow our business, like our original series,” said Netflix in its earnings report.

On a larger level, Netflix expected to reach 100 million global subscribers in Q1 2017, but the streamer ultimately fell short of that goal. After gaining a record 7.05 million new customers in Q4 2016, Netflix only added 4.95 million subscribers over the following three months — 1.42 million in the United States and 3.53 million abroad. The company said it will hit the 100 million subscriber benchmark during the weekend of April 22nd.

While Netflix believes it will soon reach a nine-digit audience, it is also predicting another dip in customer acquisition over the next three months. Between April and June, it expects to add 3.2 million subscribers, only 600,000 of whom are projected to be in the United States.
