Reddit Teams With Twitch For Four Days Of Live-Streaming AMAs At SXSW

During the 2017 edition of South By Southwest (SXSW), Reddit will adapt one of its most popular features for the live-streaming medium. The so-called “front page of the Internet” has teamed up with Twitch to broadcast four days of coverage from Austin, led by a number of interactive editions of Reddit’s popular “Ask Me Anything” (AMA) interviews.

The stream will be hosted at the Rio venue in Austin and will run from March 13th to the 16th on Twitch. The live broadcasting platform, best known for its gaming content, will lend its own channel to Reddit during SXSW, and the content aggregator’s stream will be hosted there.

The highlight of the stream will be the interactive AMAs. On Reddit, users pose questions to notable figures and “upvote” the ones they most want to see answered, with the interviewee ultimately responding to the most popular queries. On Twitch, those questions will be asked with some help from Twitch’s chat feature

“Twitch has expanded to new categories that allow our streamers to share a much broader range of content beyond gaming,” said Twitch CEO Emmett Shear in a press release. “Twitch streamers can now share everything they do, just like Reddit has long allowed for subreddits that address every different kind of post. Partnering with Reddit for a live AMA experience at SXSW will help connect these two like-minded communities.”

The SXSW stream will not be the first video version of Reddit’s AMAs. On the platform’s YouTube channel, it has shared video answers from several notable personalities, including Neil DeGrasse Tyson and the comedy duo Key & Peele.

Other content that will be featured on Reddit’s SXSW stream will include movie teasers and musical performances.
