On Heels Of Inauguration, Markiplier Raises $128,000 For Human Rights Campaign

Over the weekend, the YouTube gaming star Mark ‘Markiplier’ Fischbach announced that he was seeking to raise $100,000 via GoFundMe for the Human Rights Campaign — a national LGBTQ civil rights organization. But Fischbach, who has made charity a central part of his mission on YouTube, and who also took to the streets alongside millions over the weekend to protest the Inauguration of President Donald Trump, blew past that lofty goal in less than a day.

“Today we stand by our LGBTQ+ friends to ensure equality for everyone,” Fischbach wrote of the endeavor. “Please help us raise $100,000 for the Human Rights Campaign to ensure the future stays bright and open for all.” As of this morning, however, Fischbach had raised $128,473 from roughly 6,150 donors in just 20 hours.

Yesterday, Fischbach also hosted a YouTube live stream encouraging his more than 16 million subscribers to support the cause.

Giving back has been a recurring theme for Fischbach as his social star has grown. He has hosted four other GoFundMe campaigns thus far, raising $275,242 and $81,907 in two separate campaigns for the Depression And Bipolar Support Alliance, $70,882 for St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, and $55,976 to pay for medical bills and funeral expenses of Daniel Kyre, a friend and fellow YouTube star who committed suicide in 2015.
