First, there was the Upfronts. Then, there were the NewFronts. And now, there’s the LiveFronts — an inaugural event that serves as a new take on the annual gathering whereby programmers present future content initiatives in a bid to court advertisers.
The LiveFronts, a one-day conference to be held next Tuesday at the Eventi Hotel in New York City, is being hosted by BRaVe Media Ventures, a strategic advisory and investment firm, and Roker Media, a so-called Live Streaming Network (LSN) launched last April by renowned weatherman and digital streaming pioneer Al Roker. Presenters and sponsors include Live Nation, CBS Interactive, Twitch, and Turner Ignite, while Digiday will serve as the event’s media partner. Execs from Snapchat, Viacom, WWE, Tubular, YouNow, and others are slated to speak at the invite-only, single-track event.
“Live streaming is an entirely new category that combines the best of social media, television and real-time interactivity,” said Roker Media co-founder Ronald C. Pruett, Jr. in a statement. “The LiveFronts is designed to showcase the new talent, programming, and formats being created as part of it.”
Anyone will be able to live stream the event’s panels, keynotes, and case studies on the LiveFronts’ Facebook page. For instance, NBC Olympics executive producer Jim Bell will deliver a keynote titled ‘Exploring A Cultural Shift’, while Gary Vaynerchuk will moderate a panel titled ‘Sports In Focus’. Other topics include monetization and measurement; Snapchat’s impact on brands; and fireside chats with top executives from both Viacom and CBS Interactive.
“We’re excited to be able to curate what we feel is an important series of discussions that gives the industry a chance to reflect on what has been working and where the business is going in the future,” said BRaVe Media Ventures co-founder David Beck in a statement. “There was a lot of talk about live at the Upfronts and NewFronts; at the LiveFronts we’re going explore what’s really happening.”
