A few days before Vice’s presentation at the 2015 Newfronts, news arrived of A&E’s plan to rebrand its H2 channel around the alternative news publication. During its event, Vice didn’t address that story; however, it did show off a number of new shows, which, according to a sizzle reel, will debut on a “new channel.”
The publication’s new programming slate included a number of well-known names. Ellen Page, for example, will host a show called Gaycation, where she will travel around the world and explore the local attitudes toward LGBT culture in each city she visits. Marc Maron will have his own Vice show, too; in Vice Portraits, the comedian and podcaster will “talk to celebrities, actors, and directors,” according to the sizzle reel. “When we do it on the show, it will come together.”
Several of the shows teased in the sizzle reel are based on existing programs from within the Vice network. Rapper and foodie Action Bronson will look to bring his series F**k, That’s Delicious to a new home, while chef Eddie Huang, who scored one of Vice’s biggest digital video hits with Fresh Off The Boat, will helm Huang’s World, a show about culture, family, and food.
It’s unclear when these programs will come to Vice’s TV channel, if that is indeed where they are headed. In the meantime, though, the publication will continue to distribute plenty of content on the web. It regularly releases videos on channels like Vice News, Noisey, and Motherboard, and its HBO show provides a weekly edition of its signature brand of edgy, rule-breaking journalism.
